Draftt vs Flim: a reference search engine or a workspace

Short answer: Flim is a search engine for references: a huge library of stills and video cuts from films, TV series, ads, music videos and animation, with AI image and video generation on its top plan. Draftt is a workspace for building the work: boards, decks, your own searchable library and AI assistants, with a smaller, hand-picked catalog of commercials and music videos that lists who made each one. If you need to find the right frame among millions, Flim is the bigger tool. If you need to turn references into a treatment or a pitch with your team, that is what Draftt is for.

This page is written by Draftt, so read it knowing that. We have tried to say where Flim is better, and every price links to its source.

Pick Flim if

  • You want the biggest pool of references. Flim holds well over a million stills and hundreds of thousands of video cuts.
  • You need moving references. Flim Pro lets you download video cuts as MP4 and GIF.
  • You want AI image and video generation next to your search. Flim Pro includes third-party models and "Magic Boards" built from a script. Draftt has no AI generation.
  • You want to search for free. Flim's free plan has unlimited searching, filters and reverse image search, with one still download a day.
  • You work for a large brand or agency that needs SSO. Flim has a Teams plan with custom pricing, and its homepage shows logos like Chanel, Gucci, Ogilvy and W+K.

Pick Draftt if

  • Your references have to become something: a moodboard, a treatment, a pitch deck. Draftt has boards and slide decks in the same place.
  • You work with others. Real-time collaboration, comments pinned on the canvas and guests invited to a single board come with every paid plan.
  • You care who made a frame. Each frame in Draftt's Explore lists the full crew and companies behind the work.
  • You collect references from all over the web. Draftt's Chrome extension saves images and videos from any page into a library you search by content, color or lookalike.
  • You work with Claude, ChatGPT or other assistants. Through MCP they search your references and build boards and decks with you.
  • You want to pay less. Draftt Pro is US$12 a month; Flim Basic is €14.90 and Flim Pro €34.90.

What Flim does well

Flim was founded in Paris in 2020 by Dan Perez and Victor de Castéja, and it has become one of the largest reference libraries for directors, art directors, agencies and brands. Its homepage talks about 1.5 million stills and 400,000 videos; its pricing page, about more than 2 million stills and 575,000 video cuts. Search is the heart of it: describe a concept, drop in a visual reference, search by reverse image or by hue, and filter by director, DP, actor and genre.

It is also moving past search. Flim Pro adds downloadable video cuts, 4K upscaling, AI generation with third-party image and video models, and Magic Boards that turn a script into a board. Basic already gives you the full library, unlimited 4K stills, board management and a Canva integration. Flim offers regional pricing on request for developing countries and has a program for students and teachers.

Independent reviews are few. One review site noted that it "sometimes gets a bit too creative with the search results", the usual trade off of concept search.

Where Draftt is different

Built for making, not only finding. Flim helps you find the frame. Draftt is where you lay it out next to notes, links, files and videos, then build a deck from the same references and present it, share it by link or export it as PDF. A treatment that started in Canva can come in as an editable deck.

Collaboration on every paid plan. A Draftt board is live: people edit together, pin comments to a spot on the canvas, mention each other and react. Guests invited to one board join free. Flim's team collaboration is on its Teams plan, with custom pricing.

Credits for the whole crew. Draftt's catalog is small, but each frame comes with the people and companies behind the work: director, cinematographer, production design, wardrobe, editor, colorist, production company, agency and record label.

Your own library, from anywhere. The web clipper saves images and videos from any page, and every image you save is described and indexed. Type "neon street at night, rain", pick a color, or ask for images like one you have. Pinterest and Mobbin can be browsed from the references panel on paid plans.

AI assistants instead of AI images. Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Gemini connect to Draftt through MCP to search your references and build boards, decks and docs. And Draftt works in English and Spanish.

Where Draftt falls short

  • The catalog is much smaller and focused on commercials and music videos; Flim also covers TV series and animation, at a scale Draftt does not try to match.
  • No video cuts to download and no AI generation of images or video.
  • No open free plan right now. New accounts start with a 7 day free trial of Pro; people invited to someone's board or team use Draftt free. Flim lets anyone search for free.
  • No enterprise features like SSO, and Draftt is a young product with a small team.
  • No apps in the stores and no offline mode: Draftt is a web app.

Using Flim and Draftt together

They fit well: search wide in Flim, build in Draftt. Download the stills you want from Flim and drop them onto a Draftt board, next to frames from Draftt's catalog, your own saves and your notes. Then turn the board into a deck for the pitch.

Keep in mind that Flim's terms of use allow its images for "personal, educational and internal professional purposes". Read them before you put Flim stills on a public link.

FAQ

Is Draftt a Flim alternative?

For part of it. If you use Flim to find references and then build boards and decks elsewhere, Draftt does both in one place, with a smaller catalog. If you need Flim's huge library, video cuts or AI generation, Draftt does not replace it.

Is Flim free?

Flim's free plan has unlimited searching, filters, reverse image search and public boards, with one still download a day. Unlimited downloads start at Basic, €14.90 a month.

Is Draftt cheaper than Flim?

Yes. Draftt Pro is US$12 a month or US$96 a year. Flim Basic is €14.90 a month or €12.90 a month billed yearly, and Flim Pro, which adds video cuts and AI, is €34.90 a month or €29.90 a month billed yearly. Flim charges in euros, Draftt in US dollars.

Can Draftt generate images with AI like Flim?

No. Draftt has no AI image or video generation. Its AI work goes through assistants like Claude and ChatGPT, which search your references and build boards and decks.

Does Flim show who made each frame?

Flim tags its stills by director, DP, actor and genre. Draftt lists the full credits of each work in its catalog, from production design and wardrobe to the production company and agency.

Can I make a pitch deck with Flim references?

You can collect them in Flim and bring them into a tool that makes presentations. Draftt has decks built in, plus treatment and moodboard templates. Check Flim's terms before sharing its images publicly.
