Draftt vs Miro: a lighter canvas for film and advertising

Short answer: Miro is the giant of online whiteboards, built for workshops, diagrams and planning in product, engineering and enterprise teams, with a free plan and a long list of integrations. Draftt is a much smaller canvas made for film, advertising and music video work, where images and video are the material: video plays on the board, your saved images can be searched by color or by lookalike, there is a catalog of credited frames, and decks live next to the boards. If your team runs workshops and maps out processes, Miro is the better tool. If your boards are references that turn into treatments and pitch decks, Draftt fits that job more closely.

This page is written by Draftt, so read it knowing that. We have tried to say where Miro is better, and every price links to its source.

Pick Miro if

  • Your team runs workshops, retros and planning sessions, or draws diagrams. Draftt has no diagramming or workshop tools like timers and voting.
  • You want a free plan: Miro's holds 3 editable boards.
  • You depend on integrations, or need phone apps (Miro has iOS and Android; Draftt is web only for now).
  • You are a large team where everyone edits. Miro's Starter costs US$8 per member a month billed yearly, less than Draftt's Team at US$12 per seat.

Pick Draftt if

  • Video is part of your references. Videos up to 100 MB play inline on the board and you can grab frames from them. In Miro, video upload is still in beta.
  • You collect references from the web. Draftt's Chrome extension saves images and videos, several at once. Miro retired its web clipper on February 1, 2026.
  • You need to find an image again, by what is in it, by color, or by how it looks.
  • You want references with credits from commercials, music videos and films.
  • Your board turns into a treatment, or you share it with clients and freelancers. Decks are built in, and guests invited to a board are free seats; in Miro, guests come with the Business plan and up.

What Miro does well

Miro started in 2011 as RealtimeBoard and says it now has more than 100 million users in over 250,000 organizations, with a rating of about 4.7 out of 5 from more than 12,000 reviews on G2. For a workshop, a diagram or a project plan it is hard to beat, and it connects to far more of the tools a company already uses than Draftt does. Its AI goes further than ours: agents (Sidekicks), automated Flows and an image generator. Talktrack records a walkthrough of a board for people who missed the meeting.

The complaints are about weight and price. One G2 reviewer says "performance can lag with large boards"; another, that "the paid tiers can feel expensive for small teams or individual users". On Miro's community forum, people who work with images report pictures looking blurry and losing resolution when copied between boards.

Where Draftt is different

Made for pictures and video. A video up to 100 MB plays right on the board, and you can pull frames out of it and lay them next to it.

A web clipper that saves video too. Miro's clipper has not been available to install or maintained since February 1, 2026. Draftt's Chrome extension puts a Save button over images and videos on any page, with a side panel to save several at once.

A library that finds things. Every image you save is described and indexed. Type "dusty road at golden hour", pick a color, or ask for images like one you already have.

References with credits. Explore is a hand-picked catalog of frames from published commercials, music videos and films, each with its director, cinematographer, production company and agency. Drag a frame onto a board or save it.

The treatment in the same place. Miro presents a board through its frames. Draftt has decks: real slides built from the same references, presented, shared by link or downloaded as PDF. A Canva design comes in as an editable deck, with no marketplace app in between.

AI that knows your references. Draftt's MCP server is made for creative work: Claude, ChatGPT, Codex or Gemini can search your library and the catalog, and build boards, decks and docs with you.

Where Draftt falls short

  • No open free plan right now. New accounts start with a 7 day free trial of Pro; people invited to someone's board or team use Draftt free.
  • No diagramming or workshop tools, far fewer integrations, no phone apps and no AI image generation.
  • For a team where everyone edits, Miro's Starter is cheaper per seat billed yearly (US$8 against US$12).
  • Draftt is a young product made by a small team, and its catalog is smaller than dedicated reference libraries. Miro is built to run across large companies.

Using Miro and Draftt together

Many agencies use Miro for planning and have no reason to drop it. Keep the workshop and the project plan there, and the references, moodboard and treatment in Draftt. Images paste straight into a Draftt board, the clipper picks up anything on the web, and every board or deck has a public link you can send to the client.

FAQ

Is Draftt a good Miro alternative for moodboards?

For film, advertising and music video work, yes. Draftt adds video that plays on the board, a library you search by color and lookalike, credited references and decks for the treatment. For workshops and diagrams, Miro remains the better choice.

Is Draftt cheaper than Miro?

For one person billed yearly they cost the same: US$96 a year. Monthly, Draftt is US$12 against about US$10 for Miro's Starter. For teams, Miro's Starter costs less per seat, but guests in Miro need Business (US$20 per member a month billed yearly), while in Draftt they are free.

What happened to the Miro web clipper?

Miro says it "will no longer be available for install nor maintained as of February 1, 2026". Draftt's Chrome extension saves images and videos from any page into your library.

Can you upload videos to Miro?

Video upload in Miro is still in beta. In Draftt, a video up to 100 MB plays inline on the board.

Can I connect Claude or ChatGPT to Miro?

Miro has had an official MCP server since February 2026, aimed at coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code and Copilot. Draftt's MCP server lets Claude, ChatGPT and other assistants search your references and build boards and decks with you.
